A blue moon is the second full moon in a calendar month. For a blue moon to occur, the first of the full moons must appear at or near the beginning of the month so that the second will fall within the same month (the average span between two moons is 29.5 days). June 2007 will have two full moons: the first on June 1, the second on June 30—that second full moon is called the blue moon.

 I’ve always been kind of fascinated by the blue moon, probably because my father always said “…once in a blue moon…”  He was the “goto guy” in the whole family.  He had an answer for any question, whether he knew the answer or not.  When people asked him something, they either knew he didn’t know or they soon would.  They didn’t stop coming, though.  I think people just loved to hear the crazy answers he made up.  Once, I asked him why he did it.  He told me that he knew people were asking crazy questions just for an excuse to have a laugh.  Then he said, “I’ve got a crazy answer for every crazy question.”
